Founded in 1981, the vision of Lapalala was a combination of a sustainable conservation initiative and a groundbreaking youth environmental education project emphasizing the interconnectedness of man and nature and delivering lasting benefits for both. The reserve creates employment opportunities and the transfer of skills for our surrounding communities, with an emphasis on establishing small businesses in support of the wildlife economy. Lapalala provides a safe habitat for all of the species that existed historically, including what are now rare and endangered species of flora and fauna. The Lapalala Wilderness School works to provide environmental education for future generations and empower them to become South Africa’s future conservation champions.
