Meet Arthur the one month old rhino who tried to save his mom from poachers

TIMES Live South Africa Kgaugwelo Masweneng

On May 20, at Kruger NP, a four week old baby rhino tried valiantly to protect his mom from poachers while he was struck with a machete.
Sadly, Arthur’s mom was killed and he was left injured, traumatized psychologically, emotionally, and physically. Baby rhinos often die from emotional damage rather than wounds according to Michelle Potgieter who is helming the initiative to help Arthur. Arthur needed tenderness, love, and a gentle approach in a secure rehab environment. Liz Wilson Chandler, an expert in wound care nursing, is attending to Arthur at a rhino sanctuary. He is active, jumping and playing around– as baby rhinos like to do– which is a good sign. The healing takes time. It   is a process.
