Solio Game Reserve is the oldest black rhino sanctuary in the world. It also holds the highest number of rhinos, black and white combined, in a single private entity in the world! 85% of Kenya’s white rhino and 30% of black rhino live protected within Solio. When poaching decimated rhinos, Solio began an active breeding and conservation role. This was so successful that Solio began supplying black and white rhinos to other reserves in Kenya and East Africa, becoming a cornerstone of rhino conservation in Africa. In 2023, a white rhino calf was rescued, and the Solio Rhino Orphanage was created. The orphanage rescues rhino calves, as well as other injured and abandoned wildlife. The animals will be looked after until they are ready to re-enter the game reserve to once again become wild.
