According to the South African government, 394 rhinos were poached in 2020; 245 of these in Kruger National Park. This number, while still high for those of us who believe every rhino life is precious, is down from the 594 that were killed by poachers in 2019. The number of poaching incursions was very low at the beginning of 2020 as countries went into lockdown and international travel restrictions kept wildlife traffickers away.
We are hopeful that these numbers will continue to decline and that poachers continue to be prosecuted. Read the full report here: Rhino Poaching in South Africa in 2020
